I’m in financial distress. How can NID help me? 
NID housing counselors are trained and certified to help you assess your housing and/or financial situation and offer a myriad of resources to help reach your housing or financial goals. 

What are the documents that I need to prepare for a one-on-one appointment? 
Your counselor will provide you with the required documents list before your appointment. So: no worries! Give us a call and we will get you set up with the list of required documents. 

What are types of services do you offer?
We deliver our services in two formats: 1. One-on-one counseling to create an individualized plan for you and your family; or 2. group education where general information is shared on the topics listed below. We couple our group education workshops with one-on-one counseling session to assess your individual housing objectives.

What are the prices for your services? 
Free of charge in most circumstances. There may be a nominal fee for Reverse Mortgage Counseling. 

Where are your services offered? 
NID has Branch Offices across the United States – visit our branch locator here. We also offer counseling via telephone and virtually so if we do not have a branch near you, or you have mobility impediments, we can still assist you. 

What are your office hours? 
Office hours vary. Please contact a local branch for their office hours. 

Do I have to wait for my home to be in foreclosure to get help? 
No, you don’t have to wait. We can better advocate for you if you contact us as early as possible. a

It there an income standard or eligibility to avail of your service?
No there is no income eligibility requirements. 

Who among the members of my household should attend the appointment? 
Anyone over the age of 18 years old. 

What if online or virtual session is not possible for me, is there are an alternative way for me to receive the counseling? 
If online/virtual sessions are not possible, and circumstances prevent in-person counseling, we can send us your information by regular mail and conduct the sessions by telephone.

How many sessions would it take to finish the entire counseling?
It varies. After the first counseling session you will walk away with an action plan and a clear understanding of next steps. 

Will I get my First Time Homebuyer certification after I finish the session? 
You will receive your Home Buyer Certification after you attend the one-on-one counseling session. Our counselors want to make sure you understand the information covered during the First Time Homebuyer Education workshop and answer any additional questions you may have.
